Band of Boulders

2021

Daniel, Wyoming USA

Limestone, Bone. 141’x 3’x 6″

Collection of misplaced and misfit rocks and boulders. This land art reveals the true contours of the slope it rests on and directs attention to nearby elk feeding grounds. The real art exists in the construction process – all rocks and boulders were scavenged, moved, and placed by four hands. The only manmade technology used was a length of lariat and a short piece of rebar. With the average weight of limestone per cubic foot being 150 lbs., an estimate of 31,725 lbs. of rock and boulder were moved.
